Because unless they are worth around $13 million dollars (average net worth of the top 1%) then they are part of the 99%. 99% of people don’t expect things to be handed to them. Just because someone is in debt does not mean they have made bad decisions. What about students who want to go for a higher education than something that is “moderately priced”? They must take on debt and deal with it. And what if they can’t find a job? Because it’s pretty hard to find one these days, if you haven’t noticed. What about people who are born into poverty? People who have medical conditions and cannot pay for their bills because they’re uninsured? Students who have to take care of elders or kids? I’m sure they work hard, too. It’s not their decision to be part of the 99%. Other people work just as hard, if not harder, as this person to overcome poverty and adversity. And a lot of the times it’s impossible to do so.
